Toyota Manufacturing UK Apprentices success at the 2015 WorldSkills UK Skills Competition
Toyota Manufacturing UK Apprentices have won Gold and Bronze medals in the National Finals at this year’s UK Skills show and four of the competitors have been named in Squad UK for World Skills Abu Dhabi in 2017.
Fourth year apprentices Jack Dakin and Humzah Razzaque won Gold medals as well as being named in the UK squad. Jamie Mann and Alex Bufton who are also fourth year apprentices won Bronze medals. Tom Revell and Sam Hillier, recently graduated apprentices, were also named in the UK squad.
Jack, Humzah, Tom and Sam are now in with the chance of representing the UK Mechatronics industry on the world stage after excelling in the finals of the WorldSkills UK Skills Competitions.
WorldSkills is the largest international skills competition in the world. Held every two years, the competition sees around 1000 young people, aged 18-25, from all over the world come together to compete for medals in more than 40 different skills including Electrical Installation, Welding, Web Design, Culinary Arts and Bricklaying. WorldSkills Abu Dhabi takes place from 14 to 19 October 2017.
Carole Stott, Chair, Find a Future, which manages the UK’s entry into the WorldSkills Competition said: “Skills competitions showcase the levels of performance that can be achieved by individuals and organisations through high quality further education, skills training and apprenticeships in the UK. I offer my congratulations to every young person that has earned a place in Squad UK and I wish Jack, Humzah, Tom and Sam the best of luck in their training.”
Tony Walker, Deputy Managing Director of Toyota, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and in only our second year of competing we have been able to match our 2014 success. We are very proud of our apprentices and wish them luck in their squad selection and competition in 2017. What a great way to show that our apprentices have premium skills.”
A number of squad selection events will now take place in readiness for the 2017 competition in Abu Dhabi where a team of two will represent the UK
